MW Health BlogRSS MetroWest Blog

Welcome to the MW Health Blog! This blog is intended to start a community dialogue where ideas and viewpoints about all things health in MetroWest can be shared. The blog will be written primarily by foundation staff, with occasional guest bloggers weighing in from time to time. We plan to use the blog to start new conversations about health, health care and philanthropy. We’d love to hear from you so please stop by often, leave a comment or two and let us know what you think.

Datsun became Nissan. The Natick Collection is once again the Natick Mall. Kentucky Fried Chicken is KFC. Jordan’s Furniture will never be confused with Jordan Marsh.

The MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation is now the MetroWest Health Foundation.

Why the change you ask?

Besides the fact that “MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation” doesn’t fit neatly across a business card or roll off the tongue when you answer the phone, it’s a name that people often get wrong. We’ve seen the five words that make up our name words rearranged and often said with one or two words left out. So, after 12 years, we thought it was time to refresh our name and logo and make it a little easier to remember us.

As you will see by our new logo, our emphasis will continue to be on the health needs of our 25 MetroWest communities and supporting and encouraging community-based health programs.

With our name change we are also updating our website address – you can now reach the Foundation at www.mwhealth.org. And, while you are logging on, don’t forget to visit us on Facebook.

Welcome to the first blog post from the Foundation!

This blog is part of a wider Foundation initiative to use social media to share insights and ideas from the Foundation. We intend to use this blog to engage our readers on issues that touch the work of the Foundation – health and wellness, philanthropy, the area’s non-profit sector and, of course, health reform.

A lot of what we fund and our program activities do make their way into formal reports and newsletters, but often there is the “back story” that also needs to be shared - why did we think this was good project to fund? What did we learn from a grant that we hadn’t expected? Or, what could have been done to make a grant or a program more successful?

We hope the blog will also help to create dialogue about important issues facing our area (hint: we need you to comment on what you read and post your thoughts). We will be featuring guest bloggers and will be inviting local leaders to use our space to share their thoughts and ideas on important issues as we go forward.

In the coming weeks we will be posting blogs on such topics as the construction of the new community health center in downtown Framingham, local efforts to address teen pregnancy, our health career scholarship program and the work of our health leaders. I hope you will check back regularly and follow us as we dive into the blogosphere!
